Why I built this…
Most families don't need more information.
They need better frameworks.
Hi, I'm Rylan Chan,
Founder, The Calm and Prepared Home
Physician Assistant | 25+ Years in ER & Family Medicine | Father of 6
I've spent over 25 years in medicine—family practice, urgent care, emergency medicine, sports medicine, and cardiology. I've treated thousands of patients, walked families through countless medical decisions, and learned one fundamental truth -
The tools matter. But the frameworks matter more.
The internet is full of medical advice. What's missing is clarity when it matters most—at 2 AM when your child has a fever, after a head injury on the soccer field, or when you're unsure if something needs urgent care or can wait until morning.
That uncertainty? I've seen it in exam rooms for decades. Parents who Googled, second-guessed, and debated whether they were overreacting. They weren't careless—they were unsure.
I built The Calm and Prepared Home to change that.
This isn't about eliminating every worry or preventing every emergency. It's about giving you the same decision frameworks I use in clinical practice—practical, printable guides that help you know what actually matters, what changes the equation, and when to escalate care.
My wife and I live on a small acreage in Idaho with our six kids. We homeschool, we prepare, and we know what it's like to balance real-world medical decisions with the chaos of daily life. I've had the same 2 AM moments you have—I just happen to have frameworks to work through them. That's why I'm sharing this with you.
My mission is simple: Help families move from panic to preparedness.
Know what matters.
Be Prepared. Not panicked.
